I've found out a lot about my Norwegian relatives who came to New Zealand (thanks to kiwi vikings forum page) but can't find a link to death records in Norway. My GGG grandfather Pontus Mork was born in Sweden in 1831, married and lived in Norway and died either April 8 1869 OR March 28 1872 - there are two dates on the LDS records. He was in Oslo at the time of death I think. His wife Sofie Christofferson had remarried and emigrated with their four children in August 1873. Is there a way to confirm the date of death (and possibly cause) via records in Norway?

The death records I found were in the IGI which has records submitted by individuals and as you can see not always accurate. The official records would be in the Kirkebøker (church records). The LDS has these on microfilm so if there is a center near you, you can rent the films. Unfortunately Oslo has a number of Kirkes and finding the one that lists his death may take some searching. I did find Thor's christening record
PONTUSEN MORCK, Thor Christening
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 22 Dec 1862
Christening Date: 6 Apr 1863 Recorded in: Oslo, Akershus, Norway
Collection: Domkirken; Trefoldighet; Den Norske Kirke
Father: Pontus Leonhard MORCK
Mother: Sofie Caroline CHRISTOFERSEN
Source: FHL Film 255760 Dates: 1856 - 1870
So Trefoldighet would probably be the place to start. Here is a link to the microfilmed records for Trefoldighet
Click Here You would want the film for Begravede
Here is a link that list the other Kirkes in Oslo Click Here
Not easy but at least you have a couple of dates to check 1st.

Thanks Carla, you've been incredibly helpful in my family search. I may have to wonder about Pontus' early death for a while longer....it looks like a difficult search as you say!
