Looking for information on my great grandmother, Jorgine Nilsdatter Ellefsen born in Oiestad (located her in the 1865 census along with my great grandfather, Halvor Ellefsen born in BO and in 1900 census) and my grandfather, Nikolai Ellefsen born in Ostre Moland. I have located him in the 1900 census along with his mother, Jorgine and brother Helmer. Does anyone have information on that area?

Also I need information on my Great grandfather, Halvor Ellefsen, born in BO.

The 1865 census shows Jørgine Marie Nilsdatter (b. ca. 1842 in Øistads Prgj.) as wife of Halvor Ellefsen (b. ca. 1838 in Bø Prgj.). The couple is living on a farm called Mørrefjær østre (Saugbak) in Austre Moland, Aust-Agder, Norway (no children in this census).

Austre Moland in Aust-Agder has a published history book about that area (of course, in Norwegian). That book is "Austre MOLAND, ei bygdebok", by Kristen Weierholt. The parish books as early as 1699 are available for Austre Moland through the LDS Family History Library.
Øistad (I usually spell that as Øyestad) is also in Aust-Agder, Norway. It also has its own published history book -- "Øystad Bygdebok", 2 volumes by Kjeli J. Bråstad. The parish books as early as 1672 are available for Øyestad through the LDS Family History Library.
I do not know of a Bø prestegjeld in Aust-Agder (but there are/were Bø parishes or districts in Nordland, Rogaland, Sogn og Fjordane, and Telemark. There were also areas called Bøe in Hordaland and Møre og Romsdal). My first suggestion to start your work to determine WHICH Bø - would be to settle down with a good map or two of the parishes and clerical districts in Norway and determine which Bø might be quite close to Austre-Moland in Aust-Agder.

Thank you for your reply. After I sent the message, I found out that Halvor Ellefsen came from Bo in Telemark. I did find his father listed in the 1865 census.

Thank you for the information on the Bygdebok. Also, how do you make the symbols in Norwegian?
