His brother went over to try find him. if anyone could give me a link so I could search in files after his name, I would be very grateful!!

You have the databases that can be found from the home page of this website.
And also try the emigration databases at the Digitalarkivet -
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar
(these are separated by the various ports of departure).

It is not easy to give advice if we don't know what you are looking for, where, when , who? Maybe if you gave us some information we could help you. Alot of the information available is on paid websites.

he emigrated 9th of january, 1924, from Aalesund i think, with boat. and that is all we know. his name is Johannes Sivertsen Tømmerbak, but I don't think he used Sivertsen. Maybe he used only that name when he reached America, if he did. his brother went over to find him a few years later, and he changed his last name to only Sivertsen. so I don't know what last name Johannes used. this is all the information we have about Johannes, and that is the reason for whyI have started to try and find out more about him. I know that it would be hard, but I wanted to try..hope someone can help me find places where I can search.. on http://digitalarkivet.uib.no I have searched for information many times before..

He called himself Johannes Tommerbak when arriving at Ellis Island 23 Jan 1924, leaving Europe from Southampton on the S/S Aquitania, but he was only traveling to New York in transit. His destination was Tepic, Mexico via New Orleans together with some other men (at least 8) from Aalesund.

New Orleans is still trying to recover after hurricane Katrina, many websites may not be operational. But you could check under the state heading for Louisiana in the United States.

Check for Mexico in this collection -
