My great grandfather Hans Myhre came from Norway to Chicago around 1881. I have been searching for him for years and have found nothing. I just recently found a Hans Myhre arriving in New York on the SS Celtic on 6/12/1881. My Hans was born in 1861 and the info I found states this Hans is 20 so I am assuming it is him. Does anyone have any passenger list for this ship? I have been searching with no luck. I have tried locating him in the 1865 census and 1875 with also no luck. There are no Hans Myhre's born in 1861. I am assuming he took this last name when he left Norway. It might have been his farm name. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Yes, I posted several years ago, but still have had no luck in finding him. I also have received my grandmother's birth certificate and it states he was born in Gornibe, Norway. I have had people look for this place with no luck. It could be a misspelling as he did not speak English very well.

Any ideas????
