Hello;
I am new to forum, I like it here, great site. I have been searching my families roots for some time now, and have discovered four Finnish sea Captains.
1. Captain Karl Johan Osterlund, my Great-Great-Grandfather b. Aug 24, 1837, Finland. Aland Maritime had found him onboard the Appelonia in 1881 as a understyrman, and in 1886-1888, Karl was on the Oliver Cromwell as a understyrman.
2. Captain Anders Karlsson, b. 1826 Finland, drowned as Captain of his ketch Julia was shipwrecked Oct 28, 1881.
3. Captain Gustav Erik Osterlund, b. Oct 26, 1844, Finland.
4. Captain Erik Gustav Wennstrom, b. 1857, Finland.
Please over look my email address name, temoprary movie title, Thank You for reading-Rodney K. Hasting

You'll probably find these men in the LDS Scandinavian Vital Records Index. That should give you at least basic information to start your research into Finnish resources.

Thank You Hopkins;
The familysearch.org is my main site that I use, but I guess not enough. I will search there for all four lost seamen Captains. I had gotten information from Aland Maritime museum, but only on Karl Johan Osterlund, as understryman. I have tryed Finland Maritime Museum, but they are closed to the public until 2008.
I had worked with a man by the surname of Hopkins, in Diamond Springs, California, USA, we were freinds, we worked at a lumber mill together, his nickname was Hoppie.
Thank You again, Rodney

Erik Gustav Wennstrom is my great grandfather. Our family has lots of information about him. A replica of his sailing ship still hangs in the church at Aland, Finland.
