I'm looking for him...he was born Jul 1846, emigrated about 1871 or so, ended up in Donnelly, Stevens, Minnesota and died on 3 Apr 1918.

I've looked for a farm named Sherstad, and different spellings, but I'm not finding anything. Can anyone help?

Sorry about the crash. I noticed some of the stuff I was working on had gotten lost.

How about Hans Olson living on the Skjerstad farm (the k isn't pronounced) in the 1865 census in Elverum Hedmark. Click Here

Terrific! Thank you, Carla! He was born on 27 Jul 1845......I went back to the ancestry.com census, and all but the 1900 showed his birthdate as being abt 1846....so, both he and his wife were born in Elverum.

So, if he were traveling from Hedmark, which would probably be the port he sailed from?
