Valborg Rasmusdatter, who was 5 years old in 1865 census, was born Oct 4 1860, see #94.
(Valborg born 1841 is most likely dead before 1860)

??? What you mean?
Valborg born 1841 is the wife of Johannes Thorsen House and emigrated 1866. Her she is in census-1865.

Sorry for the completely wrong assumption, it is now crossed out.

The reason for my hasty and wrong assumption can be found in your posting of 26/04/2015 : 02:14:13 where after Valborg Rasmusdatters birth/baptism record is referred to "Valborgs parents and siblings in 1865 census". The Valborg recorded in this census was the one born in 1860 and not the one born in 1841.

Would it be a need for correcting that posting - that the two Valborgs were sisters?

My Husband Larry is just thrilled with all of this wonderful information from all of you that we call fondly "our Norwegian friends." Thank you for your detective work and time. I think the thing that Larry was just overjoyed about was finding out how his family got that name House. None of the living relatives that he has talked to over the years he has been interested in genealogy knew. Many blamed Ellis Island and as we can see, Johannes did not arrive there. Thanks again, Cheryl and Larry House

A question for jwiborg: Thanks so much first of all for all your help. It is very exciting for us to get this information. We are wondering on the marriage of Thore Thorsen and Madela Johannesdr from 7/5/1828 what the column titles and column information says. It is hard to read the script accurately to try to translate it from Norwegian. Thanks again, Cheryl

Another question for you: As we sort through information on Valborg Rasmusdr, we have her self reporting that she was born in March 1839 in a US Census and also on her gravestone is the date 1839 for her birth. The website of that gravestone mentions her birthplace being Olen, Hordaland. Other data shows her birthdate as 1840 or 1841. Can we be sure this is the same person as you have listed above? Her marriage to Johannes Thorsen lists the same father Rasmus Jensen as this birth that you have indexed as 06 Apr 1841 above. Thanks, Cheryl

I read the birth date for Valborg Rasmusdatter to be Febr 16 1841, not April 06 1841.

Its good that your're skeptical and question the information given here! It's easy and convenient to take whats written here for granted, without asking questions.

First of the all; the birthdate we have for Valborg Rasmusdr Kulledalen is 16 Feb 1841. (06 Apr 1841 was a typo. Sorry for that.)
That birthdate is from her baptism record, and is also identical to what is written in her confirmation record from 28 SEP 1856:
Valborg Rasmusdatter Kulledalen
15 Years Old
16 Febr
Huustvedt
Farmer Rasmus Jensen & wife Valborg Bjørnsdatter Kulledalen

I think this is as far as we can get in confirming a birth of date from that period. So the question is; is this YOUR Valborg Rasmusdr?

I think so. The marriage record from 14 Jul 1861 says that Johannes Thorsen Hustvedt's wife is Valborg Rasmusdatter Kulledalen (21), ie. 21 years of age, and from Kulledalen farm. Even the name of her father corresponds with the baptism and confirmation records. There are chances that there could be several Valborg Rasmusdatter Kulledalen in the area at that time, but I haven't seen any.
Johannes Thorsen Hustvedt is from Ølen, but he later re-located to Vikedal, and his wife Valborg Rasmusdatter Kulledalen is from Vikedal.

The distance betwen Ølen and Vikedal is only 10 miles though, and takes about 18 mins to drive today. Ølen belonged to Hordaland county previously, but borders were changed in 2002, and does now belong to Rogaland county.

Hi Cheryl!
Some news for you: Local historians have for a couple of years been working on a Farm History Book for Vindafjord municipality. The book will cover both Ølen and Vikedal, and it will contain your folks.

I contacted one of the authors, and she confirmed that Johannes Thorsen Hustvedt and wife Valborg Rasmusdr would be in the book (registered as emigrated). Valborgs parents was also registered, the same people as we've seen here. They had registered the same date of birth as us; 16 Feb 1841 (taken from the church book).

Most of the farm history has now been written, and they had started the 2nd phase of the project; collecting pictures and other info that would reflect the daily life.

The authors would like to hear more about this family in the US; where they initially settled, and other info like descendants, daily life and pictures. This could be a good chance to make a contribution!

There wont be a lot of space in the book for persons that left the township, but there will be some about the emigration, and in this context she said it would be great to have details about certain families.

Hello, We would be extremely interested in a copy of the book. We would like to provide some information about those that emigrated if it is not too late. Sorry we had a medical issue. Cheryl
