Hello! I haven’t been on this page in awhile, but was wondering if anyone knows about the celebrations that are happening in Norway this year for the 200th anniversary of the first Norwegian emigrants leaving for the US on the ship, Restauration. I’m aware that Gausdal is having one in August and was told that other areas are doing that too. Does anyone know where I can get information on all the locations having celebrations?
Thanks! Wanda

Thanks! I’ve seen that site, but it doesn’t list individual celebrations. Gausdal is having a big celebration in August. I may have to look at individual locations and see if they are planning something. Thanks, again!

I can recommend a few events that will be taking place at the Norwegian Emigrant Museum in Stange, near Hamar.
June 8: the new, permanent exhibit will open to the public. It is called "Unknown Landscape". https://utvandrermuseet.no/ukjent-landskap

June 15: The Norwegian Emigrant Museum's Friends have combined forces with most of the historical societies around Lake Mjøsa to create a historical tour with the sidewheeler Skibladner from 1856, which still sails on the lake. We have chartered the boat, and the tour will start in Lillehammer at 9:30 and end at Eidsvoll at 6 pm. At each of the stops, the local historical society will present a group of emigrants that left from their area. Actors in period costume will play the roles of these people, and they will board Skibladner on the first leg of their journey to America. https://utvandrermuseet.no/historisk-opplevelsestur-med-skibladner

June 26, 28-29: Historical play about a group from Ringsaker who were the first Norwegians to settle in Wright County, Iowa. The play will be performed at the museum with the buildings from Norwegian America as scenery. The play is a musical called "4th of July - 17. mai" and was written by Tor Karseth. https://utvandrermuseet.no/utvandrerspel-4th-of-july--17-mai

The links are in Norwegian, but you can at least enjoy the pictures!
