The last of the "Missouri's boats to leave the "Danmark"
This month's picture shows the rescue of some of the passengers on the S/S Danmark. It was printed in "The Graphic" an illustrated weekly newspaper on May 11 1889.
On April 6th 1889 the Danmark was abandoned in the Atlantic. The Danmark had 800 passengers and a crew of 100, they were all saved by a small freighter, the S/S "Missouri" of the Atlantic Transport Line. The "Missouri" was not accommodated for more than 20 people. The 900 passengers was brought to the Azores and put ashore.
