Wilson Line steamship

This month's selected picture is showing the Wilson Line S/S Eskimo cruising in a Norwegian fjord. The S/S Eskimo was built by Earle's Shipbuilding in Hull 1910. Her tonnage was 3326 gross, 2536 under deck and 1632 net. This ship was built for the Scandinavian trade, and appeared on the Hull - Kristiania (Oslo) route for the first time on June 8th 1910. She was steady on the Kristiania route till she was taken over by the Royal Navy, renamed "H.M.S. Eskimo" in 1914, in connection with WW1. In addition to bringing large numbers of Norwegian emigrants from Norway to England, this ship also sailed with tourists during the summer season. The tourist calss (or 1st class) was known to be of very high standard. However, the accommodation for the tourists was much different from that of the emigrants traveling on 3rd class, and they were severly separated from each other.
