The bark Brødrene was built in 1863/64 at Sikså in Sweden. Tonnage was 578 tons gross, 464 net, dimensions: length 151,9 ft x beam 3i,3 ft and depth was 15,5 ft. She was owned by J. A. Køhler in Stavanger. In 1865 the Brødrene departed from on June 1, and arrived at Quebec July 22. She was carrying 82 passengers and was mastered by Capt. G. Mejlander. In 1866 the bark Brødrene departed from Bergen Apr. 25, and arrived at Quebec in ballast on May 27. She was carrying 244 steerage passengers and 1 cabin passenger. An infant died of debility on the voyage. Her tonnage was given to be 450 tons. She was mastered by Capt. G. Mejlander and had a crew of 18. Hunting passenger lists. In 1867 she departed from Bergen Apr. 30, and arrived at Quebec May 3. She was carrying 252 passengers. Tonnage was given to be 449.5 tons. Mastered by Capt. G. Mejlander. The passenger list is archived by the National Archives of Canada [NAC]. In 1872 she departed from Stavanger Apr. 20, and arrived at Quebec May 21. She was carrying 263 passengers. Tonnage was 516 tons. Mastered by Capt. G. Mejlander. In 1873 the bark Brødrene departed from Stavanger on May 20th, and arrived at Quebec July 8. She was sailing in ballast, and was carrying 6 cabin passengers and 258 steerage passengers. The ship was supposed to depart from Stavanger on an earlier date, but was detained in quarantine at Stavanger. Two children from Kvalevaag in Adalsnæs had shown sign of smallpox and had been taken to hospital. All of the passengers and crew were vaccinated. After a while in quarantine there was no sign of any illness aboard, and the ship was released. The company had engaged a doctor from Christiania to go with the ship to Quebec. She was inspected at the quarantine station at Grosse Île on July 8th. There had been one birth at sea, and three deaths from non-contagious disease. She was mastered by Captain Otto Bruun and had crew of 15. In 1874 the bark Brødrene departed Stavanger on May 5th, and arrived at Quebec July 12th. She was sailing in ballast, and was carrying 6 cabin passengers and 239 steerage passengers . When she came into the quarantine station at Grosse Île on July 12th, measles prevailed on board this vessel. Forty-two of her passengers were received into the hospitals. All the passengers were landed. They and their effects as well as the vessel itself were thoroughly cleansed and disinfected. Two of those admitted to hospital died, the others, after various intervals, were discharged cured. Her tonnage this year was measured to 443 tons. She was mastered by Captain M. Martensen and had a crew of 14. The passenger lists are archived by the National Archives of Canada [NAC].
