In 1866 the bark Eucharis departed from Christiania May 6, and arrived Quebec June 13. She was sailing in ballast, and was carrying 363 steerage
passengers. [someone added the same numbers and came up with 372! no calculator...]
One man died of acute rheumatism during the crossing. When the ship arrived to the quarantine
station at Grosse Îsle, 4 children were sick from diarrhoea. The ship was filthy and was detained
in the quarantine station till cleaned. The Eucharis was mastered by Capt. Andersen, but
the front of the passenger list is signed by Capt. Nannestad. She had a crew of 16. The passenger list was archived by the National Archives of Canada [NAC].
Newspaper announcement from "Hamar Stiftstidende", Dec. 14th 1866. The announcement is for a 1867 crossing on the Aucharis [Eucharis] and the Dagmar. It says the Aucharis crossed in 34 days the year before [1866]. "The fee is 15 Speciedaler (Spd.) for adults, children 8 - 14 years old 8 Spd. and children between 1 - 8 years old 5 Spd. There is an other additional 1 Spd. in landing money for each passenger. An interpreter will follow all the way to Chicago. Cabins available. Enrolling and additional information, as a photo of the ship can be seen at the undersigned. N. Petersen." However, only the Dagmar actually sailed with emigrants in 1867
