The information listed above is not the complete record of the ship. The information was collected from a multitude of sources, and new information will be added as it emerges

The bark Garibaldi was named named after the Italian freedom fighter Giuseppe Garibaldi. She was one of several ships at that time by that name. She was owned by Mr. A. B. Bull of Tønsberg, Norway and was She was built at Alblasserdam, Holland, by Thos. C. Bartlettin in 1838, She had the burden of 255 Norwegian Commercial Lasts, and was a large bark. Mr. A. B. Bull, who was also the owner of the brig Wilhelm Tell, which also sailed with emigrants to Quebec in 1861. The Garibaldi was 36.4 meter of length on deck, 9,7 meter breadth moulded, 9,7 meter depth in hold and 5,96 meter draught of water. In 1861 the Garbaldi (Garibaldi) departed from Christiania May 3 and arrived at Quebec June 20. She was carrying 422 steerage passengers. Master was Capt. Seeberg. Because the National Archives of Canada [NAC] did not start the archiving of passenger lists before 1865, and the Norwegian emigration records did not start before 1867, there is no surviving passenger list for this voyage in any of those archives. However, we have been able to find the names of 66 male persons who were on the ship from a recommendation in the newspaper Morgenbladet. In 1862 the Garbaldi departed from Christiania Apr. 26th and arrived at Quebec June 20th. No surviving passenger list, see above. Timeline to records.
