The ship Hebe was built in 1851 at J. A. Køhler's shipyard in Stavanger. J. A. Køhler had specialized in the transportation of emigrants, and had several ships engaged in the trade. The Hebe was said to be built specially for the emigrant trade. The Hebe of Stavanger is sometimes mixed up with another ship by the same name, the Hebe of Bergen. Originally rigged as a ship, later re-rigged as a bark.

In 1857 the Hebe departed from Stavanger on June 9th, and arrived at Quebec July 15th. She was mastered by Capt Svendsen. Because the National Archives of Canada [NAC] did not start the archiving of passenger lists before 1865, and the Norwegian emigration records did not start before 1867, there is no surviving passenger list for this voyage in any of those archives. Timeline to records. In 1858 the Hebe departed from Stavanger May 8th, and arrived at Quebec July 1st. She was mastered by Capt Svendsen. Because the National Archives of Canada [NAC] did not start the archiving of passenger lists before 1865, and the Norwegian emigration records did not start before 1867, there is no surviving passenger list for this voyage.

Most of the emigrants came from Stjernerø and Findø, and just a few families from Stavanger and the surroundings. The emigrants all together only brought an insignificant amount of money. The notice states that the Hebe would be the only ship to leave Stavanger with emigrants that year.

In 1859 she departed from Stavanger May 18th, and arrived at Quebec June 21st. She was mastered by Capt. Svendsen. There is no surviving passenger list for this voyage.
