Hamburg America Line steamship built 1907 at Stettin by AG Vulcan. The ship was built for the HAPAG' Caribbean service. On the image the ship is seen at Hamburg before WW1. In 1915 she was interned at Hoboken, then seized by the US Government in 1917 and renamed USS "Madawaske". Used as a US Army transport in WW1. In 1922 she was rebuilt to become a real troopship and was renamed USS "U. S. Grant". The USS "U. S. Grant" (AP-29) also served in WW2 as a troopship.
