The steamship "Noruega" was built by Fevigs Jernskibs-byggeri, Fevig (engines by
Richardsons, Westgarth & Co, Middlesborough) in 1908. She had one funnel, two
masts, single screw and a speed of 10 knots.
Launched on 17th October 1908, she commenced her first recorded passenger
voyage in March 1910 when she sailed from Christiania (Oslo) for Newport
News. In October 1913 she made her 15th and last voyage from Christiania to
Philadelphia and Galveston. The ship was built as a cargo freighter, but she could
also accommodate 12 cabin passengers and 30 steerage passengers. In January 1914 she went to Wilh. Wilhelmsen, and in 1924 was sold to
Algerian owners and renamed "Schiaffino". In 1925 she was again renamed
"Marie Louise Schiaffino" and in 1937 became the "Brisbane". On 8th June
1938 she was damaged by air attack at Denia during the Spanish civil war,
was beached and scrapped.
