This French Line steamship was built in 1918 by Ateliers & Chantiers de France at Dunkirk for the French Line (C.G.T.) as the "Jacques Cartier". In 1930 she was renamed "Winnipeg" and became the flagship of the Pacific Coast - to - France service. In 1941 she was taken over by the Ministry of War Transport and renamed "Winnipeg II". On October 22, 1942, she was torpedoed by U-443 southwest of Fastnet.
