The Swedish Emigrant Institute in Växjö, Sweden
"The Swedish Emigrant Institute in Växjö, Sweden documents, with
records and memorabilia, the period of Swedish emigration from 1840 to
1930 when 1.3 million people left Sweden. The National Institute was
founded in 1965.
It has been based at the House of Emigrants since 1968. The
Institute is supported by the Emigrant Institute Friendship Society with
3000 members. The archives contain approx. 5.400 ft. of material. The
library has about 25.000 titles (1992) and our comprehensive database
and church record inventories contain literally millions of names, dates
and places. All of these can be studied in their Reading Room, where the
institute's knowledgeable staff is at your service. Whether you are a
historian, a genealogist or a tourist, you are welcome to use their
emigration history collections. A small research fee is charged. A
special brochure with research guidelines is available.
