Hi

I'm looking for information on Andrew Olsen born in Risor, Norway around 1852, with parents Ole Olson and Mary Christensen (uncertain of surname). Around 1879 he emigrated to New Zealand and settled in Mauriceville, marrying my great-great-great grandmother Randi Johanne Hansen (nee Andersdatter) in 1909. Andrew died on 19-May-1915 in Mauriceville with no children.

I'm looking for his relatives to try to understand whether he emigrated with them, as well as trying to work out if he already knew Randi's first husband or family Kristian Hansen who died in London - see earlier post https://www.norwayheritage.com/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4303

Where does the information on his place of birth as Risor. No good candidates born in Risor. But here is one from Høvåg, Aust-Agder. Høvåg is however on the coast like Risor but quite far from Risor but still in Aust-Agder.

Thank you so much - that looks interesting. The information about Risor appears on his death certificate, however what you've found does seem like a good match as I,m guessing Christophersdr could also be anglicised to Christensen.

Looking over the earlier work that you linked to leads me to believe that if the Randi and/or her family came into contact with Andreas Olsen it would likely have been in or around Oslo. Here is a 1875 Census that I found rather interesting. It is the 1875 Norwegian Census. If the orginal record has two errors that would lead me to believe that this is the record for Kristian Hansen and wife Randi . The birth location for Kristian is Spind but places it in Sweden not Vest-Agder and gives the wife the name Randi Johannesdatter rather than Randi Johanne Andersdatter. Take a look and let me know what you think. These are quite big errors but the rest of the information fits well.

Sorry to say on further inspection of the marriage records for Andrew and Randi, Andrews mothers maiden name looks to be Hanstensen.
Thanks again for the other information, I will investigate as we have quite a bit of other evidence to enable some good cross-referencing. I can see how Randi Johannes Andersdatter might be shortened to Johannesdatter.
