1600's? 1700's? 1800's?? 1900's?? What vital dates -birth year, emigration year? Names of other family members??
Has the name been "Americanized"? |

His wife was Bertha Olsdatter also Tostad. Their birth dates would have been late 1700s as their son Odd/Aad Torstensen was born 1819. He was born Frue Sagn, Stavanger and went to America right after marring Gunhild Evensdatter in 1854. |

As far as I know Torsten and Bertha never went to America. Odd and Gunhild went to Leland, Ill stayed five years had a son Thomes in 1857 and then went to Fillmore, MN. |

If you're looking in Frue Sokn, Stavanger then try the spelling Tastad. |

Thank you for your help. I just can't seem to find Torsten Bezesen and Bertha Olsdatter in Tastad. The info was in Aad's obituary but I can't find them. Thank you again. Renee Sanders |

The Tostad name and Frue Sogn are still missing, but they married in Ċrdal church in Hjelmeland parish short before they emigrated on April 28. 1855, couple nr 2 down page: Ungkarl Aad Torstensen age 37 and pige Gunnil Evensdatter age 21. 2 column is where they was born, it´s hard to understand, but we do at least have their birth place in a document: Aad was born in ....in......sogn(local parish) and Gunnild was born in (hard to understyand) Ingvoldfjord or Ingvaldstad?. His father was Torsten ..... and her father was Even/Evind...... Sorry, but I can´t give you more help on these names now. http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=1602&idx_id=1602&uid=ny&idx_side=-145
In the emigration record we find Gunnilds birth or christening date, April 28. 1834 Right top page, nr 12 and 13: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=1602&idx_id=1602&uid=ny&idx_side=-222
Hjelmeland church with church records http://www.disnorge.no/rogaland/kirker/hjelmeland.htm
I can take a look up in these records later in the afternoon after been visiting my cabin, or perhaps you want to try for yourself, or others in this fora?

Amazinig or Unbelievable Hopkins and Renee.
No doubt these are the right persons. Aad is a very unusual name, it´s the first time I see the name spelled like this, Od or Odd is common, but the pronunciation of Od/Odd is Aad/Ċd, confused? Everyday speech and writing isn´t always the same. Aad /Odd means the point of a spear, sword, arrow etc.
Gunnild (Sirene) was born March 17 and christened April 28. 1834 in Hjelmeland. She was daughter of Eivind Torgrimsen and Siri Johanesdatter Ingvaldstad. Ingvaldstad ( Ingvald´s recidence) mentioned abowe that was hard to read was the name of the farm she was born.
top right side nr 10 http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=15788&idx_id=15788&uid=ny&idx_side=-65
Thank you, and have a wondeful day both of you too.

Thank you so much, Kare, I had given up trying to find her parents. I was trying to find his because Ad's obituary said they were Torsten Bezesen and Bertha Olsdatter both of Tostad. I don't think Tostad/Tastad exists it might be short for something else. Thank you again so much! Blessings, Renee

Renee, dont´t give up Tostad/Tasatad, because: In 1865 there are 3 persons with Last name Tostad living in Stavanger and Tastad was a farm in Ĝvre (Upper) Hetland (Frue) parish in Stavanger main parish. Bezesen/Besesen is also a very unusual name, I know one person named Besse in Norway today. Tastad was first mentioned in a diploma 1343 when "Orm a Tastad" buy a part in a farm in Randaberg. The origin of the name Tastad is unknown, but the ending -stad means place or recidence. http://www.dokpro.uio.no/perl/navnegransking/rygh_ng/rygh_visetekst.prl?s=n&Vise=Vise&KRYSS157664@35523=on
It´spassed midnight in Norway so it´s time to take a rest.
