I have looked to see if this question has been asked, but couldn't find that it had. Forgive me if it has!!
In reading the censuses in Digitalarkivet, what does it mean when they put a "T" under "Fødested"? For example, I have found the listing for my father's father and his mother and father and siblings in the 1900 census. My grandfather was Ole Peter Martinussen. I can see that his mother Anne Mathea Olsdatter was born in Vestre Toten. Everyone else has "T" under their place of birth. I first thought that this maybe stood for Toten in general, but then when I found my father's mother and her family in the 1900 census in Vangs Valdres, their Birthplace is also indicated at "T". (Sidsel Trondsdatter) So what Norwegian word is "t" short for?!  |

Hi,
a "t" under "fødested" (birthplace) means that the person was "født i tellingsherredet", ie. born in the same muncipality he is living at the time of the census. Click here.
