I'm searching for records when my GGP arrived in the US. My GGM, amanda Josephine Pederson was born in Kristiansand Norway on 3/25/1894 and GGF, Alfred Larson was born in Egersund, Norway on 2/22/1890. I don't know the year they came to the US or the ship...there are so many resources out there, how do I get started?

In the 1900 census there is one Alfred Larson, listed as a fosterson, living on the Leiland farm in Egersund. Click Here and on the emigrants from Stavanger list there is an Alfred L. Leiland going to New York March 1907 Click Here
There is a good chance that this is your Alfred. You should try and locate them in the US Census which should give you the year they emigrated. Also read the article on the main page here about Norwegian names and John Føllesdal's articles Click Here

The Digitalarkivet is the best source for searching Norwegian ancestors.

Hi I just noticed that Egersund has baptismal records on line. Here is the record for the Alfred I found. His birthdate is Feb 11 1890 (In Norway the date is written day/month/year) which is close Click Here

This is a possibility for Amanda in Søgne which is close to Kristiansand. Click Here

Carla,
How do I thank you? This is encouraging news! I appreciate your assistance. I've located a 2nd cousin here in the states that has begun some research as well, so we're going to compare notes and see where we stand.

Thanks again!
