Please help. I am looking for Grace Oleson who arrived in the U.S. from Norway in 1843. Her year of birth is 1815. She eventually made her way to Racine County Wisconsin and Dane County Wisconsin. Hoping to find her parents. She would not have been married.

Thank you for all your help.

I strongly suspect that "Grace Oleson" was not the name she used in Norway, it sounds Americanized. "Grace" was not a common name in Norway at those times. Do you have any more details, like names of siblings or place of birth in Norway?

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I do not have any more information about her at this time. I am trying to locate her marriage record which may tell me more information.

All I have is her birth listed as August 1815 from Norway.

Have you located her on the 1850 Norwegian's in the US census? Click Here Many of the entries have notations as to their Norwegian name and when they came. I found one Grace Oleson in Wisconsin but she was 4 and born in the US but the rest of the family came in 1843. It might be a lead. Also if you might be able to find her under her married name and hopefully she was using her Norwegian given name. The digitalarkivet also has the census for 1860 Norwegians living in the US

Hi.

Thank you so much for the information. I will check out the census. A clue that Grace may not be her original name helps. Thank you for responding to my post. I appreciate the help.
