My great grandfather Daniel Waranka, may be spelled Varanka, left Finland in 1884 with one brother and sister Pahl and Anna for America. They applied for citizenship in Oregon in 1884. Has anyone ran across these names? I don't know which ship they were on or their route. Please help. Thank you.

I looked for Finns on the 1884 New York Passenger lists at Ancestory.com. About 290 Finns arrived New York that year. None on ships leaving from Finland. No close name matches. Do you know their destination? Jim

Hi It looks like your Grandfather might have left from Trondheim Norway on March 22, 1882. There is a Daniel Waranke age 20 from Finland going to Astoria, Oregon Click Here
