Hi :)

Maybe someone can help me out here..
Ive been doing my family tree for a while now and have just now gotten to searching past family in Norway.

The 2 people i am searching out are my great grandparents,
Halvor Halvorson (changed to Halvor Serikstad)
And his wife Rense Bendikte (maiden name Kohn) Serikstad.
I dont know if she took on the Halvorson name and then became a serikstad for the trip to NYC or what.
Im trying to find their marrage certificate to see if it has more info for me to go on.. but i dont know where to search
for that.
(I think they migrated to Stavanger and adopted the serikstad name there from a farm(?) because thats the only place i see the name as beeing so popular in my searches, lol
then went to Farsund before he came to america (on his Ellis island file it shows Rense as living in farsund at the time)

The records i find are way too old to even have them in there.
Halvor is listed as being born in Skien 1897(cant find anythign for there)

I know there are a million reasons for the name changes,
moving to other farms, hiding from "dues" etc..
But something has to be out there..
Im kinda getting to the point of agrivation and i didnt want that to happen b/c this is supposed to be fun :p

So maybe someone can help me a little bit ?

Sorry if that is a big confusing mess... thats just how my brain is right now lol Thanks for looking :)

Rense Benedikte was born in 1899 and is recorded as leaving from the port of Oslo in 1925 with a young child -

The 1900 Norwegian census shows her here with her parents and siblings -

I think to look for her marriage it might be a good idea to check the church records of Farsund.

The letters g and k are often substituted for each other. I think this is the Halvor you've been looking for in Skien -

Wow that is truly amazing! i have been looking around that site for days with no results.. i just cant figure out how to use i guess

I would say thats a direct hit on the first link, That should have been her first son Aurthor or roy, and it all fits in the time frame just right.

Hopkins- it was rumored that the name was changed from serigstad to serikstad , but tossing the Halvorson in there messed
me up.. i guess they only ment Halvor's son. and nothing more.

WoW again! This is great thanks so much!!!.....

Now im off to find that marriage licence ;) please let me know if i can help with anything! (not sure how good i would be but willing non the less ;) )

I probably have found more information about Halvor Serikstad (jr.) born october 8, 1895 from our family book: "Slekten fra Bjerkreim" (our edition about year 2000). He might be the son of Halvor Halvorson Serikstad born 13. september 1874 and Aslaug Marie Trondsd. born 9.mars 1872. Halvor was uncle of my grandmother! More information might be found in Time gards- og ættesoge page 278: edition Time kommune 1973. New books about the people in Time are produced now

Hi,as Hopkins pointed out,
some translations from the 1900 census are coming:

Rense Køhn /Kohn b. Jan 1889, her siblings and parents Ole Christian b. 1858, Pier worker, and Oline b. 1872 in Gyland parish in Flekkefjord municipality, Vest Agder county.
Their recidence was first floor (1. level was a workshop) "Lille-Strandgade 27 (lille =litle/small, strand = beach, gade = street).
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=9&filnamn=f01003&gardpostnr=39&personpostnr=255%merk=255#ovre

I find two Oline born in Gyland in 1872, Oline Bertine Olsadatter b. Dec. and Oline Larsdatter b. March 9., only marriage records online can tell if one of them is the right Oline.

Halvor as Audun pointed out was from Time municipality and local parish in Lye main parish in Rogaland county.
