Wish to find the name of the ship on which Peter Anton Martin sailed about 1870 probably from Christiania. Did he go directly to New York or stop at another port? Peter was born 1854, farm name Aarevald, Ramnes, Vestfold. He is said to have landed at Castle Garden, New York City in 1870. He died in 1921 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, USA. Not found, as yet, on police registers of seamans lists of youngsters. This man is my husband's grandfather.

Here is Peter in the 1865 census - http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=f60718&variabel=0&postnr=2683&fulle=true&spraak=e.
His age is 14, which would make his date of birth about 1851.

I found a Peter Martinsen, age 20 (right age), arriving in NY Harbor on June 9, 1871 on the SS India. No other Martinsen's traveling with him. Route indicated as via Glascow, Scotland and Monille, Ireland.

Per the databases on Norway Heritage, the SS India was operated by the Anchor Line; the only agent for them in 1871 was David Aleksander Bruni in Kristiania. Their route from Kristiania was steamship to Leith, train to Glascow, steamship to New York, inland train to final destination.

I could not locate Peter in the 1871 Emigrants from Kristiania database but some creative searching might yield results.
