Odal Bygdebok use Sollauast on this farm, so I prefer to use that name.

Is there anyone from this group still on Norway Heritage webpage? Find Hansen not only had Randi and Christopher who went to the New Zealand, but they had another son, Erik, born in 1846 Sor-Odal Hedmark. I have been genetically linked through Ancestry to Rangdi and Christopher's families in New Zealand. I am looking for any information I can find on Erik (he married Anna Lovise Haagensen (b. 1851). They were married 22 Jul 1871, apparently in Gamle Aker Menighet, Oslo, Akershus, Norway, but this seems to not be the same region, so I am a little worried about the validity of it.

My family is planning a trip to this region, hopefully, this summer. I am trying to track down as much information as possible before our trip.

Have you looked at the original record to see if the record confirms or refutes your thesis that Erik Finsen married July 22, 1871 at Gamle Aker Menighet, Oslo, Akershus, Norway is the person from Sĝr-Ordal. Here is the record

#51

Looks like this Erik was born in 1846 and is from S Odalen (probably Sĝndre Odalen) Father is Finn Hansen.

The couple has two children in the 1875 census for Oslo and live at Munkedamsveien 17.

Married man and painter, Erik Finsen, leaves from Oslo on or about 13.04.1883 stating intended destination as Portland?

Lynda,
Thank you! This is all good information! The "Tind" is actually "Finn" - I've seen the original document it is a translation error.

This is my family. I live about three hours south of this area.

Thank you! There are a few discrepancies in the data due to transcription errors, but your data coincides with that I have.

Lyndal40 and Hopkins, Thank you for this information! I have reviewed my documentation and the marriage information here is accurate, as is what I have on their children. It appears at some point he moved from Hedmark to Oslo. He was married in Oslo, and his children Emma, Fritkof, Rangvald, and Hans were all born in Norway. I do not have a lot of information on Emil Barnhart Findsen who was born in 1881 and died in 1891 in New Hampshire in the US. All of their children were born in Oslo except my great-grandfather Herman (b. 1887) and his brother Louis Elmar (b. 1891).

I did NOT have their emigration/immigration information. Thank you, Hopkins! Portland would be Portland Maine, which today would only take about 3 hours drive via car.

There is about a 23 year gap in Portland Maine immigation records, that includes the year 1883, so I would not have found it in the US records, and my Norwegian is not yet strong enough to 100% navigate all of these records (but I'm trying!).

Thank you both so much! Is anyone familiar with the area? The farms? Are any of them still there? I am reading Johanna's world, and it sounds like Pasotorpet was never farmed again and is off a beaten path and not easy to find even for locals.

I am trying to hunt down the author or translator with no luck and I fear they may be deceased.

The book indicates that the owners of Kuggerud Farm knew the way, but the book is almost 20 years old..... Is the Kuggerud farm still there?
