I am trying to figure out how to find out what ship my great grandparents came to USA on. They were Hagbarth Theodor Winge born 31 Oct 1840 in Tangen, Drammen, Norway (per 1865 census) and his wife, Caroline and children Helga, Julia, Alf and Hannah. According to 1900 census they came to the US in 1881. Any suggestions?

Hi,
the list of Emigrants sailing from Kristiania 1871-1930 har a record of a shoemaker named Hagbart Vinge from Drammen, departuring 08 MAR 1882.
The ship Geiser sailed Christiania [ie. Oslo] - Christiansand - New York, arriving in New York on 1882-03-28. click here

His wife and children departured almost a year earlier, on 13 MAY 1881: click here
The ship S/S Rollo (1) from The Wilson Line sailed Christiania - Christiansand - Hull, England. click here .
Here
is a list of possible Corresponding ships they might have used to cross the Atlantic.

Destination was Barnesville, Minn.

Interesting, the family emigrated first. Could not find Karoline and family in the Ancestry.com Immigrant database so they probably came through Canada. They may have come through New York but I just couldn't find them. The Canadian films can be rented through a local Family History Center.

Found Hagbart:

Nara film #448, list #360., arriving on the Geiser from Copenhagen, Denmark to New York on March 28, 1882.

Name on list - Hagbart Winge (Vinge-old handwriting confusion, a V in those days looked like a W), age 41, laborer, steerage.
Name on Ancestry.com index - Hsbart Winge

Also on the same voyage there was a Hillebert Winge, age 19, listed in a different place than Hagbert.
