Hi Ed,
where did you find it? Do you have it as a papercopy at home?

If you could make it available on the Net, I bet there is many people here who could help you interpret or translate it.

Maybe you could scan it, and upload it to a web-page?

Hi -

I have it as a TIF file I scanned at a LDS library. It's a pretty good scan as the handwriting was clear. I can send it to you?

Hi Ed,
here is the translation of the christening record:

Susane Berthea, birth 19 JAN 1841, christening 06 JUN 1841
I believe the christening date reads June 6th, but the Vital records from LDS says January 31st:click here

parents: Lensmand J. Larsen & wife Anne Cisilia Johannesdatter Klovland

Godfathers, godmothers:
Kirsten Jensdatter Klovholt, Ingeborg Johnsdatter Elseth, Erik Olaus Larsen Skildbred, Johannes Enersen Thingstad, Niels Larsen Nyhus, Jens Pet?. Larsen Klovholt

All these farms (Klovland, Klovholt, Elseth, Skildbred (=Skjelbred) and Thingstad) are in Solum, Telemark

Thank you Jan.

Next, Susane married someone named Thorvaldsen. Now I need to find that marriage. Any suggestions?

OK, I'll accept that. I appreciate your help.

So to find Anders Thorvildsen's parents I need to get the microfilm of Hisøy, Aust-Agder, Norway.

And to find Jens Larsen's parents it would be the Vallø saltverk microfilm.

Unless you can pull another rabbit out of your hat, of course.

Thanks

If you could find their marriage record from 1872 from the original microfilm copy, it might mention parents (esp. father) to the bride and bridegroom. Or maybe their age, so you could figure out when he was born.

Hisøy had it's own church from late 1840's. Arendal has it's own church, and both places are now under the township of Arendal.

Vallø saltverk was a saltfactory on the Vallø island in Tønsberg. Sem/Slagen could be the parish.

Success! At least I think so.

I found the marriage on 15 November 1872. Maybe you can explain to me what it means.

I found Sven (not Jens) Larsen's birth on 15 December 1882. Can you take a look at this for me also?

I'll e-mail them to you.

Thanks

I haven't heard from Jan. Can I e-mail the scans to someone else to interpret/explain for me? Any volunteers?
