I am looking for a passenger list for Ole Iverson Vigen and his wife. According to the family history they were married in Begnadalen, Valdres Norway in 1881 and sailed the next year for America. Family history says they sailed on the ship "Kristiania", but since there is no ship by that name, I'm thinking that maybe they sailed from Kristiania. Ole was born in 1853 and his wifes name was Bertine Gulbrandsdatter Holet. Any help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated. |

Valdres is the common name for a group of 'parishes' in Oppland, Norway. Valdres (region includes Vestre Slidre, Østre Slidre, Vang, Nord-Aurdal, Sør-Aurdal and Etnedal.)
The 1882 emigration protocol for the port of Kristiania shows a married Berthine who had lived in S. Aurdal - married to an Ole about 30 yrs old and with a daughter 'Thea' just a few months old. They are heading for Mayville? The surname is spelled differently - but how often are they spelled the same? http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=emikra1&variabel=0&postnr=53756&fulle=true&spraak=n
You'll also find that ship spelled as Christiania. |

S/S Christiania was in route Oslo - Amsterdam, Holland with general goods, most wood products but also passengers. Agent Nils Petersen was in 1882 agent for the Holland America Line. |

Yes, that is them on the Kristiania!! No wonder I couldn't find them. I was using the starting with mode, but was starting with Iver. As much work as I have done on the US Census I should know that it is never spelled the way you think it will be. Thank you SO very much. I appreciate this more than I can say. Cyndy Moen |
