1: Was Peder Christian on the census in 1865 in Norway?

PS: Where would the best place be to find the marriage certificate from Troy New York 1855???
For Marraige Certificates you need to apply to the County Records office in New York. If you do a google serach it should give you the information you require to apply for the certificate. You might also like to do a google search for the records you are searching for in Kragero. You could also search the Ellis Island website to find the arrival in New York of your Charles.
The Ellis Island website has lists for passengers arriving at the Port of New York from 1892 to 1924. Since Charles was in New York in 1855 he would not be in this database.
New York state conducted a state census in 1855. Troy is located in Rensselaer County and the LDS library catalog indicates that they have that census copied to three reels of microfilm for that county.
There are at least 139 different males named given and middle name = Peder Christain (? surname) or the spelling variant Peder Kristian (? surname) in the 1865 Norwegian census. One male named Peder Christian (with Christian as the surname). At least 295 males named Peder Christiansen or Kristiansen. http://www.rhd.uit.no/indexeng.html
You'd need more information to be able to narrow down the possibilities.
Johan Carl Palmstrøm died 7. December 1855 (Arendal), "carpenter apprentice", 26 1/2 years old.

Thank you all so much for all of your help you have given me. I’m sorry that I wasted your time, but my family were told by a researcher 20 years ago that Johan Carl Palmstrom was most likely the same man as Charles Peterson. Now, thx to some great researchers, I have been told that JCP died in Dec 1855 in Arendal, Norway, so he wasn’t my Charles Peterson. Thx again to everyone for your help and patience. Not a waste of time. The searches that are tough and difficult are for me the most interesting.
Maybe revisiting the American life of Charles Peterson and wife Ellen Cavanagh might turn up some clues.
Death of Ellen Peterson in Australia
Ellen Peterson in the Australia Cemetery Index, 1808-2007 Name: Ellen Peterson Death Age: 63 Birth Date: abt 1840 Death Date: 23 Aug 1903 Cemetery: Rupanyup Cemetery Location: Rupanyup, Victoria Remarks: additional information available from AIGS

If the birth year is at all accurate she would have been only 15 when married and in the 1855 New York Census.
We did find an Ellen Cavanagh born about 1838 living in Rensselaer, New York, in the 1855 New York Census. However I think she is still living there in 1860 so not a candidate. In the 1855 Census I have left off the long list of borders. The earlier post on this census covers the list. See page three.

Then a Charles Peterson Born 1830, in 1852 Census in California.
My Charles Peterson would have to be back in Troy, Rensselaer in August 1855 for his wedding and maybe 6 months to 1 or 2 years, before wedding to meet his wife, Ellen Cavanagh, thx MarkPeter

Family history research is seldom perfect but always in the state of being perfected.
