I am a graduate student looking for any and all information I can on Belle Gunness, a Norwegian immigrant who later is believed to have murdered a number of people in LaPorte, IN in 1908.

I understand she was born Brynhild Paulsdatter Storset in Selbu on Nov 11, 1859 and emigrated to the US in 1881 on the steamship "Tasso".

Any help or information will be appreciated. Thank you.

Imagine you have already seen this:

http://www.alco.org/libraries/lcpl/belle.html

Are you looking for information in Norway or U.S. or both? I could not find a record of her immigrating from Trondheim in 1881, do you have a link to her immigration record.

This is probably her in the emigrants from Trondeim list Click Here Brønhild Pauls

Click Here for her in the 1865 census
Click here in the 1875 census
and possibly her in the 1875 census visiting her brother it says "Peder Paulsen tilreisende Søster" which I think means Peder Paulsen visiting Sister so maybe she was listed at home and at this location

Per the information on this site, in 1881 the American Line operated from Liverpool to Philadelphia. A good possibility is that she traveled on the S/S/ Lord Gough, arriving in Philadelphia on August 21, 1881. Philadelphia passenger list microfilms can be rented from a local Family History Center.

My name is Torger Størseth. I am a history teacher, a local historian, though now my main profession is to be the principal of a junior high-school. I have done, and still do a lot of research and lectures about on Belle Gunness. She was born close to where I was born, in Innbygda, Selbu.
