I am trying to trace Mathea and Lars who were the aunt and uncle of my grandmother.
Mathea emigrated in 1887 and settled in West Salem, Wisconsin.
Lars emigrated in 1888 and settled in Yankton, South Dakota.
If anybody could give me a tip, I would be grateful

Hi Do you have their ages, where they emigrated from? I did a search in the US census for Lars Larsen in Yankton but did not find any. Mathea will be hard to find if she married but you could try and contact the La Crosse County Historical Society or the West Salem Historical Society Click Here

Hi I found Lars and Mathea in the emigrants from Kristiana list. Lars is listed as Lars Lars. Holmen. In the 1910 census for Volin, Yankton county South Dakota there is a 42 year old Lars Holmen, single, well digger.
He is also listed in Yankton County, SD Naturalizations
Click Here It looks like a pretty good match for your Lars

Thanks for your effort. It seems a bit unlikely that a 42 years old single, well-digger should have left behind any family, so the search probably stops here. The only thing for me would be to look if there exists any obituary.
