OSKAR REISTAD Hidra ved Flekkefjørd? Who were his parents?
Hun emigrete til Brooklyn i 1922 or '23
Hun kom til Amerika like før kirgen

Oskars halvbror heter onkel THORVALD REISTAD gm Gunhild

TRINE OLSEN f. 1893 New York [ dtr av nr. 4]

Do "Oskar Olsen, Trine Olsen and Bertine Olsen" from what you list as "NDA 1900 Census" (?) match the group using surname 'Omland' listed here in 1900 Norwegian census for Flekkefjord ? -

Yes, the birth year for OSKAR OLSEN aka OSKAR OMLAND aka OSKAR REISTAD all match. The 1900 DIS records show OSKAR OLSEN born in Flekkefjørd 1897 living on Hidra and on the same farm are TRINE OLSEN born in NY 1893 [presumably his sister] and BERTINE OLSEN born in Flekkefjørd 1870 [his mother?] In other words, yes the Olsens match the Omlands.

That begs the question, who was Mr. Olsen aka Mr. Omland? Is I'm sure there are several Omlands in Norway, is there one either near Flekkefjørd? Near Kvinesdal? I ask this because tante Trine (who I do not remember, I just know that she was older than my grandfather, Oskar, lived at Feda which was near Kvinesdal). I assume that Oskar and Trine's paternal grandfather was named Ole. Surname? Can you figure that out? I also assume that when Oskar immigrated to the US he took the gårdsnavn Reistad.

I do know that Oskar had other siblings. There was a tante Magnhild and one other sister who lived in Brooklyn. Then there was the half brother onkle Thorvald (married to Gunhild) who was still alive in 1987, but has since then died.

Also connected was Ansine, I think she may have been Oskar's cousin.

You seem to have fairly firm time period for his birth and a location. Why not scan through the birth/baptisms for that year (I always include the year before and year after if necessary) for the clerical district of Flekkefjord in Vest-Agder. The LDS Family History Library has microfilm copies of the originals that you can order and use at the nearest LDS Family History Center to your current location.

Your materials at home seem to be quite amazing. Someone in the family earlier work on ancestral records? or an elderly family member's writings? I don't recognize some of the acronyms included - DIS? NDA?

You should also read the instructions for the The Norwegian Historical Data Centre (NHDC) census databases (both the easy and advanced versions have their strengths).
http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/folketellinger_avansert_e.aspx
That resource should be of some entertainment for you.

Then start working with the databases of the Digitalarkivet at - (far fewer instructions but more varied databases)
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar

A friend wrote a series of articles which you may also find of interest - he discusses using an LDS Family History Center and US public library's Inter-Library Loan program.

The previous questions are all cleared-up (see below). Now I have new questions.

Can anyone find Trine Marie Gunsteinsdatter, Træland and her husband Ole Samuelsen, Træland in Liknes sogn, Kvinesdal? OR Ingeborg Burie Berntsdatter, Omland and her husband Hans Tobias Hansen, Omland, Hidra sogn, Flekkefjord?

Martin Olsen Reistad b. 1872 in Kvinesdal (not Reistad on Hidra like I had thought)(He was still alive after the war, don't know when he died)
He is the son of Trine Marie Gunsteinsdatter and Ole Samuelsen, Træland, Liknes sogn, Kvinesdal

Martin Olsen married twice. 1st wife Bertine Elisabeth Hansdatter Omland b. Dec 14, 1869 - d. Nov 29, 1912. She was the daughter of Ingeborg Gurie Hansdatter and Hans Tobias Hansen, Omland, Hidra sogn, Flekkefjord.
His 2nd wife was the younger sister of the 1st wife Tora Gardine Hansdatter b. 1883 - d. in the 1960s. The date of his second marriage is April 18, 1914. (1 1/2 years after the 1st wife died).
Children from the first marriage
1. Trine Marie b. 1893 - m. 1913 moved to Brooklyn, then back to Norway - Feda near Kvinesdal - died there
2. Oskar Trinius b. 1897 - moved to America - died in Norway in 1928
3. Torvald Emanuel b. 1904 - d. 1912
4. Hedvig Edvarda b. 1906 - went to US
5.Magnhild Bergliot b. 1907 - went to US
6. Sigvald Trygve b. 1910 - went to US
Children from the 2nd marriage
7. Torvald Bernhard b. 1915 - d. 1990s
8. Edvin Hjalmer b. 1917 - went to US
9. Magne Garfield b. 1926 - don't know anything about him

In the 1900 census, martin and his wife Bertine lived at søndre Fjellgate, Flekkefjord. According to the census Martin was working as a carpenter in the US. That might be the reason why there were no children between 1897 and 1904. In 1903 Martin bought a farm at Reistad, close to Omland where his wife came from. Interestingly, the family he bought the farm from sold to move to the US - they left Reistad on Aug 27th 1903.

So, now I'm looking for help in finding out about Martin and Bertine's parents.
