I am looking for my grandmother:
Hjordis Sofia Bang
b. May 21,1896 Harstad, Norway
to Bernhardt Andreas Bang & Pauline Andrea Lockert
She was the eldest of 14 children. She immigrated in 1915 from Norway to USA. One of her brothers was for a short time the mayor of Oslo, Norway.
I am stuck. I know that when she arrived that she worked as a housekeeper for the Sweedish Consul, although I do not know where. She eventually settled in Lake Oswego , Oregon, USA and married Frank Oscar Anderson. ANy help would be most appreciated. Thanks You for your time. |

Ellis Island Records:
Hjordis Bang 18y (13y) arrived in New York on the S/S Bergensfjord April 27 1915 Departed from the port of Bergen April 18 1915. Her fathers name was Berhard Bang, Skippergt. 19, Tromsø. The ticket was prepaid by her aunt Laura Holt, ??4 Box 813 Tacoma, Washington.
Remember that the spring of 1815 was early in WW1. Shipping companies were afraid of German submarines and other warships torpedoing ships crossing the Atlantic. That was the reason that S/S Bergensfjord used the port of Bergen only and that all passengers had to go there for a passage to America. The southern coast of Norway up to Oslo was too dangerous to sail.

| Is there an earlier census for Hjordis Bang - her father Bernhard Bang that shows all the children? My grandmother told me she was the eldest of 14 children. Thank You kindly. |

Bjarne Andreas born Rødøy, see #30
Bernard was moving around, difficult to find where he went, baptism records wuld be the best choice to find his children, do you know any of the given names? |

There is good information about the Norwegian censuses and other resources available for our genealogy research in the articles linked above - I'm repeating the link here --

The major Norwegian censuses we use are the 1801, 1865, the yet incomplete 1875 and the 1900. There were other censuses taken, some only in specific areas. Check the LDS library catalog for the area of your interest.

That is all I have at this point -

| I just scanned an article of Alf Bang and Laura Imalia Bang and Hjordis Sphia Bang - so Alf was lost at sea after he came to America for a visit - wow - would like to have more information about this |

Oyvlars - Thank you for this information - but where does it come from? Also in your last post who is Harry Bang and who is Harry Bergeton Bang? I am also interested in the whereabouts of the information of Bernhard and Pauline Bang's death information.
#4 on the list of Bernhard and Pauline's children is : John Rust Bang
Children 9-12 are as follows:

so far no birth or death dates

The baptismal record for Bernard Andreas Bang is #1, his parents were captain Anders Bang and wife Laura at Rønning under Esvik.
Bernard Andreas Bang and Pauline Andrea Larsen were married Jan 1 1896, see #1.
Pauline Andrea was born out of wedlock Oct 12 1875, see #8, her mother was Amalie Olsen, Svinøe and the father was "lensmannsfulmektig" (marshall) Aslak Nordahl, Roligheden. (Why she had the last name Larsen when she married is difficult to say).
This is most likely Amalie Olsen, her parents and siblings in 1865. |
