I am looking for a translation of (Sprogl. History).
I will write the full sentance in English and then in Norwegian.
Graduated in 1881, took his second examination with PRÆCET and in 1891 language teacher history examination (Sprogl. History).
Student 1881 (l.), tok anden.eks. med præcet. og i 1891 sprogl.hist. lærereks.
Thanks, Gus |

Hi, sprogl.hist. lærereks are short for sproglig historisk lærereksamen. [språklig historisk lærereksamen in modern Norwegian] English: linguistic (and) historical teacher's certificate examination
The teacher training in Norway became divided into two different branches of study in 1871; one "språklig historisk" and one "matematisk-naturvitenskapelig".
språklig historisk meaning you were studying languages and history. matematisk-naturvitenskapelig = mathematical and scientific subjects.
In those days you could get 5 different grades at the University; where 1 to 1.5 was the top score. Compared to an "A" in the US.
1,0-1,5 >> Laudabilis præ ceteris 1,6-2,5 >> Laudabilis 2,6-3,2 >> Haud illaudabilis 3,3-4,0 >> Non contemnendus 4,1-6,0 >> Immaturus
Getting "Laudabilis præ ceteris" (abbreviatet "præcet") ment that you got the top score... prae ceteris is Latin and can be directly translated to "above the others"...
Getting a score below 4 ment that you failed the exam, and you got the grade "immaturus", ie. immature...
