I am researching our family tree and am at a standstill. Our ggrandfather, NELS SEVERTSON,(also written on some documents as NILS SEVERTSON) immigrated to the United States in 1876. It states in his obituary in 1905 that he came from Thronjem's Stiff, Ytteroeen, Norway, and was born in 1845. We dont know who his family in Norway were and would like any information about the place he was born or his family. He married Mary Westman in Minnesota and they had four children Agnus, Jack ,Henry and Mable. They were all born in Kanabec co. Minnesota. Nels and Mary are both buried at Brunswick Luthern Cemetery, in Brunswick township, Kanabec Co., Minnesota. Thanks in advance if you can help, Pamela
Nels Severtson, 1845 Norway +Mary Westman 1879 Sweden = Mable Severtson 1903 Minnesota + Benjamin Heitmiller 1900 Minnesota =Phyllis Heitmiller Minnesota + John Trunk Minnesota = Steven Trunk 1957 Minnesota

The 1900 census for Brunswick, Kanabec, MN indicates: Nils born May 1845, immigrated 1873, Mary born Feb. 1879/crossed out and changed to 1869. Married 10 years (1890) but first child, John, not born until 1897 and if she was indeed born in 1879 then she would only have been 11 years old in 1890.
Have you obtained their marriage record/application/church record, this could all give clues. His naturalization record which most likely be held at the county level. The church logs for the child's baptism/confirmation may have more information. The cemetery records are often helpful. |

Yes Mary was very young. He only lived 15 years after he married her. I found where they were buried but nothing else except the census on her |

Hello Severtsons - My Grandmother Nelda was the granddaughter of Nels Severtson. The information I have is that his wife's name was Kari Saeter, both of Norway. His son Erik (also of Norway) was my grandmother's father. My grandmother was born in Chetik, Wisconson in 1903.
Hope to learn more about Nels and family as I have no family history to speak of.

There is a Chetek in Barron County, Wisconsin. Perhaps you'll be able to find more identifying information for Erik if you search in records of that area. Most important to find will be his birthyear and year of immigration to the US. |

Hi Art, this topic "Nels Severtson" originally posted by Pamela on 22/10/2005, is about a different Nels Severtson than yours. I suggest you start a new tread instead of using this "faulty" one...
Btw; could any of the following ones be in your family? Severt Severtson Birth: 13 SEP 1874 Oslo, Akershus, Norway Death: 27 MAY 1951 Parents: Neils Syversen & Kari Saeter link Erick Severtson Birth: About 1876 Of Borgan, , Oppland, Norway Parents: Nils Syversen & Kari Saeter link
