I have read that emigrants from the Northern part of Sweden may have left their homes by ships from Norway ports. If this is true, would this apply to someone who lived in Jamtland, Sweden. I am looking to find the port from where my Grandfather Nils Jonsson of Jarpen Sweden may have left from to emigrate to Canada.

It was quite common for people from Jamtland (Jemtland) to go vi the port of Trondhjem (Trondheim) in Norway.

Thank you for the information. How would I go about finding which ship he sailed on - I'm assuming he emigrated around 1905 or 1906. His name was Nils Jonsson b. 1877, Jarpen, Sweden, I believe the homeparish may have been Undersakers moder, and he left to come to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada?

Do you know if he traveled alone, or with a family?

Nils was the only one of his family that emigrated to Canada and would have travelled alone.
