I don`t know when she was born, and thats one of the things that makes it hard to find her, and the fact that she might had made changes in her names...
She was emigrating from Norway to Canada, at least her only known destination was Canada we think..unless USA
Got to have been born between ca. 1850-1860 sometime, and was from either Tromsø or Alta

Hi Marianne,

I looked up the birth record of Elen's son who was born 4 jun. 1879 in Talvik . His name was Alf Kjartan. His father was a Widowed man named Johan Edvard Kjeldman (born 1830) and Elen's birth year was listed as 1842 on this record. Age always varies by a few years on records, but I think this is close enough to prove that your Elen Johanesdatter Haldorsen is this one:

Elen Johannesdatter Haldorsen born 14 Aug 1840, Talvik, Finnmark. Parents Johan Christian Haldorsen and Alet Olsdatter. You can see in the 1865 census from the last posting that she had a sister named Anna also which matches your information.

Sincerely,
Tami Jenson
