I am beginning an ancestry search for my great grandfather Hans Hanson, born on the Grinda Farm, Sogn, Kingdom of Norway in 1832. Our information has it that he, with his parents and grandparents, immigrated to America in 1846 and settled in or around Racine, Wisconsin. I would appreciate any and all info. someone might have access to or other sources and records. Thank you.

I am quite sure these are your family members. Hans would have used the last name of Hansen or Hanson in America and also the birth year is off a little and the immigration date is off by a year but I would believe this is probably who you are looking for.

In the book Norwegian Immigrants To The United States, Volume two, 1844-1846, by Gerhard B. Naeseth on page 122 it says:
Coming over on the Albion arriving in New York, July 2, 1845, having sailed 57 days earlier from Bergen.

JOHANNES HANSEN GRINDE, (Johannes Hansen), age 41, son of Hans Olsen Henjum and Turi Olsdatter born July 7, 1803. Emigrated from Leikanger, Sogn og Fjordane to Norway Township, Racine County, WI. Married April 26, 1838.

MARI LARSDATTER TJUGUM, (Mari Hansen), age 36, daughter of Lars Ellingsen Tjugum and Marthe Ingebritsdatter, baptised December 3, 1809.

HANS JOHANNESSEN GRINDE, (Hans Johannesen),age 7, born June 29, 1837

THURI JOHANNESDATTER GRINDE, (Turi Johannesen), age 5, born November 4, 1839.

Sources: Leikanger, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway parish records;
Lars Oyane; 1850 Wisconsin census.
