Hi, Thanks everyone for the help. Thanks, Carla for the birth dates for the Nyhus children and the death dates for Hjalmer and Maurits. The children's last name was probably listed as Hansen in Norway, except for Hjalmer which they listed as Petersen? I have the wedding date for Hans and Marte Nyhus as Feb. 4, 1877 in Vardal Church.
I was wondering if there were records telling of why the two children died? Would this be a different record not the church record?
I have been working on my family tree for awhile and have asked for help before, when it seemed I could not find out any more. I did find out that Marte lived with the two first children for a time at a poor peoples home. She was probably there as she was not married and her family could not support two more to feed in their home.
I have tried to find the ship's records and passenger list for Ole Nyhus, Hans and Marte Nyhus and the family. The information I have is that Ole Nyhus came to the U.S. in 1881. Hans Peter Nyhus came on the Angelo on April 20, 1883. Marte and the children came in 1884. I did try to find more on the information on this site for the ship Angelo. I wasn't able to find the passenger list though. I don't know what the path of travel for them would be. I found out the Wilson line was a very popular line of ship, but where they left from and left to England and then to New York? I don't know any of the ports they left or landed at. I appreciate everyone's help. Sue |

The Angelo was a short transit "feeder ship" that took emigrants from Norway to Hull, England. There are no passenger lists for these feeder ships. The Wilson Line operated the feeder ships, not the transatlantic voyage.
Without reading through all these postings, you have to find their "Moving Out" record, either on Digitalarkivet or from the church records. The police protocols on Digitalarkivet some times list the agent, shipping line. If you know the shipping line and exact date(s) of emigration, you can research which routes and ship possibilities.
The dates given on U.S. census are just approximates, the census taker would ask how many years they were in U.S., etc. and quickly figure back. |
