I have a ticket for an decendent who came from Nes Hedmark, Norway. The ticket is for the White Star Line. However, the bygdebok indicates he left on the Angelo, which is the Wilson line. The dates are the same. Which is most likely - he ended up on a different ship, or the bygdebok listed the wrong ship? Jodi |

You will find the answer here: The White Star Line.
The steamships of the great British companies like the White Star Line did not sail directly from Norway, but from ports in Britain. All of the emigrants traveling with British steamship companies had to travel via Hull, London or Newcastle, then from Liverpool or Glasgow or an other mayor port. This means that they would not arrive to America on the same ship as they departed on from Norway. |

Ok, I read this and I think I understand it now - Mons Helseth (the person I'm looking at) might have left Norway on the Angelo which was part of the Wilson line, and took that to either Liverpool or Glasgow, then he took a ship from the White Star Line to the USA....is that right? Thanks!

Yes, you will find a great deal of info about this by reading the different articles and info on this site. The Angelo sailed to Hull, from there the emigrants went to Liverpool by train.
Would you care to share a copy of the White Star Line ticket? It should be of some interest to the people around here. The emigrants actually had both a ticket and a contract as traveling documents from the line. |

I'd be happy to share a copy of the ticket. Just tell me where to send it. I have it scanned on my computer already. Or, if you prefer a hard copy, I can mail it to you. I also have a telegram for the same person, dated 1901, which I believe is a referral letter or letter of recommendation. Would you like a copy of that? Jodi |

It would be great if you could upload the scans to the image gallery in the Tickets and traveling contracts section by using the upload button on the right heading of that page, or send it to me by mail: borge@norwayheritage.com |
