At Norwayheritage website here, there is a Mr. Oluf Ruud listed as being Canadian Pacific Line agent in Trondheim, 1905-15. At the Cunard line page there is a Trondheim office interior photo that contains a Mr. Ruud. Is there a date for that photo? Are the two Mr. Ruuds one and the same person ? And lastly, there was a Mr. Oluf Ruud (spelling uncertain) who operated in Trondheim for Canadian Pacific Line in 1924. How does he fit in? Thank you for any help in clarrifying this. TV

First let me say that the text following the interior of the Cunard Line office in Trondheim had an error. The person on the picture is Oluf Wist, not Oluf Ruud, that has now been corrected.
Oluf Ruud was married to Emilie Solem, the sister of my great-grandfather, who was Olaf H. Solem, the head agent of the Cunard Line in Trondheim. Oluf Ruud was the head agent of the Canadian Pacific Line in Trondheim. The father of Emilie and Olaf H Solem was Richard Solem, the head agent of the Allan Line in Trondheim. May I ask what is your interest in Oluf Ruud? |

Hello Borge ! Most certainly then with your family's credentials, I am talking to the right man. In my spare time I do lookups etc. for mainly Swedes who wish to locate long 'lost' emigrants and their offspring, if any, in Canada, particularly British Columbia. I came across a photocopy of an emigrant's 1924 document that seemed to be signed, "Ruiid". And eventually, with Ole Bergemo's help it was decided that it probably was "Ruud". My thought was to try contacting someone today by that name in Trondheim (or elsewhere) who would perhaps have knowledge of the flow of emigrants in the 1920's. I am having a problem rationalizing Oluf Ruud's signature as agent on the 1924 document with the information on the Norwayheritage website that lists him in that capacity only up untill 1915. Perhaps there are privacy strictures that discourage posting this information? Best regards, Thomas V.

Well, that is interesting. The paper in question must be the contract made out between the emigrant and the agent, I have one posted in the gallery that i am going to use for a new article I am writing, click this link to see a scan. Does you paper look something similar?
I would be very interesting in seeing a copy of the document. I can confirm that Oluf Ruud was still the Canadian Pacific Line agent at the time in question, the reason he is not listed after 1915 is that the sources we were using when we made the database of agents did not go further then 1915. We will be adding more to it at a later stage.
