In his 28-page typed, single-spaced "autobiography," my ggrandfather said he and his family sailed from Stavanger on April 6, 1887. How would I find out: 1. What ship this was 2. Where he docked exactly...did they all come into NYC?
He said he and his family were "a thoroughly dejected and half-starved bunch" who didn't "take much interest in life or our surroundings." Thus, I guess, why he left out some important details! |

I recommend you do some research on this site, read the articles about routes, check the Index of Departures and Arrivals. You will find that in 1887 they would have taken a feeder ship to Hull, England, train to Glascow or Liverpool and boarded a ship to their final destination which could have been Quebec, New York, Boston or Philadelphia. If they arrived in New York they would have been processed for immigration at Castle Garden. |
