This is better than a modern dictionary in reading old records:

This might be of help when trying to locate where Bendigte was born. The NHDC 1865 Norwegian census has her family.

http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&knr=1911&kenr=003&bnr=0101&lnr=00

The 1865 Norwegian census record has her first name spelled Bendikte. Her Minnesota death certificate , obituary and 1880 census have it spelled Bendigte. But the 1900 US census lists her as Bendizla W. Knudson. I know it's her, because of the children that are listed.

The NHDC 1865 Norwegian census also has Lorents family info.

http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&knr=1911&kenr=003&bnr=0073&lnr=00

It has his name listed as Lornts M.B. Kristiansen. Ironically he also has a sister named Bendikte.

The 1880 US census lists my great-grandparents as Laurence & Bendigte Baker.

So when trying to do research on them, you need to look for all the variations of spelling, and trust me, there are many variations.

Hey Katnip (Claudia), I sent a reply to your e-mail as well.
This is so exciting that we are doing the same research.
Did you find anything in my forum/messages? The family
is from Kvaefjord. They took a ship from Trondheim, I do have
some documents I can fax or send you. Let me know, where do
you live? We are in South Carolina.
