I am new at researching my family information. I am trying to find information on my family they came from Norway in the 1900's. They had 8 children that came along. My great grandpa was Anton Johaneson Rismoen Born March 25, 1863 in Efterlot Sansver Norway. The information on parents that we have for him is Father Nils Nasser born 1825 Died 1900 est. Mother Maria Born 1840 Died 1905 est. He married Karoline Bredine we have to diffrent last names for her Hofslia or Hoff on June 4, 1886 in Sansver Norway. Her father is Ole Andrisen Hofslia or Hoff and her Mother is Marie Andrine Halvordatter Braaten. She was born January 19 1868 in Efterlot Sansver Norway. In the 1900 census they lived in Sansver Norway and the children had the last name Antonsen and Antonsdatter. We have been told that they had a daughter in 1900 and she passed away in 1901 and is buried in Sansver Norway. We can not find any information on her. Any information would be a great help. Thank You Brenda

Something doesn't sound logic here. If Nils Nasser was the father of Anton, Anton should be a Nilsson - or Nils Nasser's name was Nils Johaneson?

In the 1865 cencus there lived a Anton Johannesen (in his third year) on the farm Smidestuen in Sandsvær with his unmarried mother (in her 25th year - i e born about 1841) Anne Marie Larsdatter. (And this is the only A. J. in that cencus born in Sandsvær).

In the 1900 cencus I find Anton (born about 1865), wife Karoline Olsdatter (born about 1867) along with the children Magna (born about 1887), Ole (born abt 1889), Amanda (born abt 1892), Anny (born abt 1894), Birger (born abt 1896), Johan (born abt 1898) and Gunvor (born abt 1900) on Rismoen in Sandsvær).

Hofslia sounds as a small farm being a part of a larger, Hoff. One who lived on Hoflia could use both - or he could move from the one to the other to change the "name". This is common. In 1900 Ole Andrisen lived on Hofslien in Sandsvær as a widower along with, among others, his daughters Inger Karoline (born abt 1894), Karen Sofie (born abt 1896) and Magna Lovise (born abt 1898).

GOOD LUCK!

Thank You from what we have been told Anton was an orphan and could have been adopted. Karoline's Father was born 1821 and died 1906 her Mother was born 1834 and died 1906. Her Father was married 3 times 1st wife Ingeborg Soffie children were Andrias, Olaus, Ingerhelene, and Kristian. 2nd wife was Jordan Kristine Olsdatter Hovdebo children were Soffie, and Olette. 3rd wife was Karoline's mother and they had Karoline, Hanna, Olave, and Johan.

Another possibility is that his mother later married a Johanes who adopted Anton and/or at least gave him his own name as a patronymicon. This happened from time to time.
