I would be very grateful if anybody had any information about Severin Lunde, my great grandfather. Unfortunately I have very limited knowledge about him. On the other hand, Severin Lunde has never been a common name in Norway.
Severin Lunde was from Kongsberg, in Telemark. He moved to Kristiania (now Oslo) as a child and grew up in the city. I believe he worked as a blacksmith.
Severin Lunde was married to Karoline Lunde. He had two sons. He emmigrated at the age of 30 from Kristiania to the US, arrived in NY October the 10th 1902, (according to the Ellis Island records). His wife and their sons - my grandfather was one year old at that time - were supposed to join Severin later, when he had established himself in the US. They never heard from him (at least my mother was told that they never heard from him).
My guess is that he drank himself to death. In that case I guess there is not much information about him in any accessible records.
Please excuse my spelling mistakes, English is not my native language.

In the 1920 census, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York is:
Severin Lunde, 48, born Norway, boarder, single, longshoremen, date of immigration not readable.
He is boarding with Olaf Knudsen, 53, born Norway, immigrated 1892, asbesto pipe cover at shipyard. Olaf's wife Laura (?), son Olaf born in Norway, same immigration date.
There is a Severine Lunde, age 70, died in Kings County on January 15, 1945:

You can order a copy of the death certificate, instructions on the website.
Sometimes people did not want to be found.
Your English is 50 times better than my Norwegian.

Is Jakob Kristoffersen listed above Severin's travelling companion?
And are they brothers?
When they arrive with the ship "The NORGE" on Oct 10, 1902, it looks like their tickets have been bought by their brother-in-law I. Andersen, 126 3rd place, Brooklyn.
But the manifest is hard to read...

I was wondering about that too. Maybe Severin used his patronomynic in the U.S. What was it?
After a quick try, I could not find him in the 1900 census in Norway. |

Severin is listed as Halvorsen Lunde when leaving Oslo. |

Thank you to you both!
"In the 1920 census, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York is:

It is a good chance that this is my great grandfather. I am sure my mother will appreciate the new information about his fate.
I will order a copy of the death certificate of Severine Lunde. "Severine" is a female name and the age does not match. However, it might be a spelling mistake.
I have never heard the names Jacob Kristoffersen and I. Andersen, but will check with my mother.
Again, thank you!
