I uploaded the picture, it says "Uploaded By : Børge Solem" on the picture description in the gallery

I don't know for sure where it was taken, but I think it may be at Philadelphia harbor

Dear Borge:

THANK YOU for posting the SS Ohio and your reply.

Do you know how I can research further on
finding out approximately when your SS Ohio photo was taken
and by whom?

i.e. the submitter of that postcard and ballpark year
taken.

Tucan Takk!!

I have the original old postcard, and it does not have any information about the year taken or name of photographer. I bought the card at an auction together with several other maritime postcards which came from the estate of a diseased collector.

Did you read the information on this site about the S/S Ohio, it only operated a route to Philadelphia.

Here is an excellent site about the immigrant experience landing at the Washington Docks in Philadelphia:

http://www.balchinstitute.org/resources/phila_ellis_island.html

They would have had their medical examinations done down river, aboard ship, anyone who failed the exam were transferred to the Lazaretto quarantine station. If you Google Lazaretto Philadelphia, there is alot of controversy going on this station. They were going to tear it down and now there are going save it but build a bunch of commercial stuff in from of it blocking it's view from the river.

There is a book out on The American Line which is available at Amazon.com.

The American Line: Pioneers of Ocean Travel by Wiliam H. Flayhart, January 2001.
