Hi
I have Australian naturalisation (1910) documents for my great great grandfather William (Johan) Janson born 26 August 1853 Christiania, Norway which stated he emigrated in 1869 from Norway to Melbourne, Victoria Australia. I cannot read the name of the ship. It looks like the first letter is an I or an S followed by n and then o. The o has a dash above and below.

If someone could help me with this it would be appreciated as it is a long search for this ancestor and his Norwegian origins.

Thanks
Gen Campbell

When I posted y message about not being able to read the name of the ship, I wanted to attach a pdf to the naturalisation document for my ancestor, WIlliam Janson.

This is my first time I have posted a message on your site and could not see how to attach a pdf to my message.
Could you guide me here as to how I do this as I know this would have been prefereable in the first instance.

WIth thanks
Gen Campbell

For security reasons it is not possible to uploade files to the forum. What you need to do is to upload the file as an image or pdf file to a server, and then place a link to it from the forum. Image files can me displayed inside the message text. There is an "inser image" in the message editor.

Since my last post I have determined the ship's name.
My great great grandfather travelled on the ship "Ino" which emanated from Mauritius and arrived in Melbourne in October 1869. There is only 3 passengers listed on the shipping records, one being the captain, Captain Schultz, which leads me to believe that my ancestor was part of the ship's crew.
Does anyone have any information on this ship. My ancestor was Johan William Jahnsen, but known in Australia as Johan William Janson believed born 26/8/1851 Skedsmo. Parents Inderst Mathias Jahnsen and Ingeborg Olsdtr. pa Skaarer.
Any help would be appreciated
Regards

A quick Google search under - ship Ino - comes up with information, there was more than one ship by this name but this Ino wrecked in 1878 and was four years old:

Thanks Jo Anne - you are correct that there was more than one ship by the name Ino, and am aware of this 1878 shipwreck which is not mine which I believe was shipwrecked in 1872 or 1873.
Thank you for your reply.
