Hi Sue
Thanks for the info. You're right they may have kept together for a while. So this could be very helpful.
How do you know that your ancestors were aboard the Amelia? Have you found a passenger list for that actual date? I see that Amelia departed from Porsgrunn on April 18, 1867 and arrived in Quebec May 29, 1867.
We've looked for a passenger list for that exact departure, but have so far been unable to find one.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

This was the original post. Johannes, Maren and children with matching names can be found in the 1865 census (1--6). This was posted previously, but the link had become obsolete. But there is a match in the 1870 census as well, (8--12) containing Maren and the same four children. No husband/father is listed, although Maren's marital status is given as married. There is a remark that "Manden er rømt og agter ikke at komme tilbage". (Her husband has run away and does not intend to return.) |

And here is a new link to replace another one that had gone obsolete; Maren and her four children (but no husband) on a 1872 passenger list. (Towards the end). The same list at this site: 20a--20e |

[AntonH]:
Thanks, I finally found them (Niels, Regine and Regine's half-sibling Karen) on Ancestry – passenger list for "New Brunswick", arriving in Quebec on May 30, 1867. |
